ENVIRONMENTAL AND SANITATION SECTOR

This sector of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) encompasses companies or contractors within the waste, sanitation and environmental service providers. The umbrella body for the sector, the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA), is committed to the needs of Ghana’s Environmental Sanitation.

As partners in development, the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) has over the past several years maintained an active collaborative stakeholder relationship with the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the delivery of solid and liquid waste management services to the citizenry in line with government policy of maintaining a clean and a healthy environment for all.

Some company members in ESPA are Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Alliance Waste, Asadu Waste, etc. The sector also advocates for proper structures and environment for the industry.

Some of their services include: Waste Management (support and environmentally friendly services in all aspects of waste management); Mobilization of Machinery (capital, machinery and support by national and multinational organizations); Capacity Building (seminars, workshops, training schemes, etc.); Recycling Services (private sector participation in the provision of environmental services); Initiation of Support (research programs for appropriate technology and management techniques); and Advocacy for Active Participation (private sector waste management and environmental sanitation).

DR. JOSEPH SIAW AGYAPONG

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong is the founder and Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group Companies. Dr. Agyapong became a Chief Executive Officer at the young age of 25 when he transformed his mother’s exercise book business into a printing press (Jospong Printing Press).

He has over the past twenty (20) years built a conglomerate with over 40 companies operating in about 12 sectors of the Ghanaian economy and in seven different countries. His businesses put together employ over two hundred and fifty thousand (250,000) people of different ages, gender and cultures including Americans, Asians and other African Nationals.

Ten years ago, he revolutionized waste management in Ghana with the introduction of Zoomlion Ghana Limited by the adoption and utilization of simple but modern technologies and methods of waste management at affordable and competitive rates. Today Zoomlion Ghana Limited has given birth to other waste management solutions in Ghana in five (5) other African c85ountries.

Dr. Agyapong is an astute business man whose passion for innovation is boundless. In 2009, he started Subah Infosolutions – an IT and Telecommunications company whose operations now go beyond Ghana to Guinea and Sierra Leone.

Dr. Agyapong has received many significant awards from Presidents and countries worldwide. Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyapong is currently the President of the Environmental Service Providers Association in Ghana, a council member of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and a member of other boards.
