On May 29, 2024, the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) toured the facility of Electrochem Ghana Limited Located in the heart of Ada, which has been recognized as the largest salt manufacturing company in West Africa, with approximately 1,000,000 metric tons (250 tons per hour) of salt produced per annum.
Electrochem Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the MacDan Group of companies, and a distinguished member of the AGI is a testament to the country’s rich natural resources and the potential for sustainable economic development.
The factory contributes significantly to the local economy by creating jobs and plays a crucial role in stabilizing the national currency through its export potential.
According to the chairman of the MacDan group of companies, Mr Daniel Mckorley, Ghana is endowed with the richest Sodium Chloride in the world which has been attested by the world’s largest producer of salt, China. Stating its purity as 99% which is a rare natural chemical to access.
This unique quality of the salt produced at ElectroChem Ghana has made it a highly sought-after commodity on the international market. Moreso, salt as a commodity, has over 14,000 uses, with no byproduct, which explains the name ‘white Gold’ which when exploited efficiently, will endow the country with more income.
The Electrochem Songor has provided over 5,000 job opportunities for people, especially in the Ada community. Providing more than 3,000,000 Ghana cedis in zero-interest loans to 5,000 market women to expand their businesses amongst other corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects for the community and the country as a whole.
Salt is indeed the white gold resource Ghana must invest in!
